Information On Various Wind Farms
The Wind Industry in Deuel County
The Wind industry is well established with multiple wind farms in the southern portion of the county at Buffalo Ridge; this has created various job openings, increase in tax revenue for schools, cities and county. The summer of 2020, when permits were granted, the installing of wind turbines began. Listed below are the different projects in Deuel County:
Avangrid:
Tatanka
The newest project in southwest corner of Deuel County with approximately 56 turbines. This project was finished and operational in the begining of 2021.
Buffalo Ridge II Wind Farm
Invenergy
The Deuel Harvest Wind Farm is a 300-megawatt (MW) wind development scheduled to come online in 2020 in Deuel County, South Dakota.
Since Invenergy's first wind project in 2004, we have built 140 sustainable energy projects. Along the way we have partnered with host communities to, create jobs, invest in local economies and make low-cost, sustainable energy available to more Americans. We are excited to work with Deuel County to build on this tradition with the Deuel Harvest Wind Farm.
Proposed Community Benefits: for approximately 50,000 acres of private land near the communities of Clear Lake, Altamont, and Gary on the northern edge of Deuel County, the Deuel Harvest Wind Farm will consist of approximately 157 wind turbines for a total capacity of up to 310.1 MW. Wind is a long-term business that benefits farmers and landowners in rural areas, in addition to the local community. Invenergy will provide easement payments to the landowner before, during and after construction. During operation, the Deuel Harvest Wind Farm will contribute about $8 million annually in local payments, including property tax revenue to Deuel County and local townships, lease payments to landowners, and local staff salaries. This number does not include the recycling of any money that stays in the community. The local communities will benefit during construction as well as over the long run from DHWF's approximately 250 construction jobs, and 15 permanent jobs once the farm is operational. In addition, the Deuel Harvest Wind Farm has committed to funding a $30,000/year scholarship for the life of the project that will directly benefit local high school students in Deuel County. If you have questions, please contact them as they will be glad to answer them. Approximately 157 wind turbines will be installed as of summer of 2020.
